although the duo has always been more about musical exploration than anything else, the employment of weird sounds in their performances has reached an all-time high. "we love you" says zapan. "the reason we're never bored or painfully introspective anymore is cuz we've got music. we want you to have that too."

mister afternoon have performed several times in unique circumstances, including at the after project in chicago & at the giant robot 30th issue release party. zapan elaborates: "we opened for punk hardcore bands both times. i think they hated us. our music is soothing, not unlike christian radio or kenny g, but with more of a drumnbass, booty hiphop-type flavor." their newest cd (self-titled) features a 25-minute track by djn & a 15-minute track by zapan. "my track is basically an aural history of the london underground" says djn. "zapan's track is without a doubt the most pornographic non-visual thing i've ever been exposed to. we're still not sure how the two tracks fit together, but they do." zapan & djn are planning another split release for later this summer. "it's a white-label 7" with the most hardcore, jump-up, raw, sickest & most illegal jungle ever."

zapan insists on having the last word: "we never play anywhere unless it's a gay bar or a house party. we drink a lot too, so if you're a promoter, please budget accordingly."
